Barbera d'Asti DOC 2005, De Forville
From an excellent producer, this is a Barbera that can be drunk now or aged for a couple of years. The twelve months the wine spent ageing in oak barrels has added complexity to the typical qualities of the grape. The nose shows intense cherry aromas and hints of vanilla, which follow through to the crisp, yet smooth palate. An ideal red to drink with anitpasti.

Errazuriz Max Reserva Syrah 2005, Aconcagua Valley
The Errazuriz property was once the largest vineyard in the world and is now the home of Chile's foremost family owned winery. A subtle yet flavoursome wine displaying spicy pepper aromas giving way to concentrated black fruits on the palate. Ripe tannins and nuances of oak make for a long and complex finish. Drinking well now but also has the complexity to age for a further 5 years.

On the nose this wine shows the typical warm spice characters of Shiraz, with a lovely complexity of berry fruits on the palate. Superbly balanced and long with an almost European elegance which results from the relatively cool site of the vineyards. Excellent with traditional roast beef.
