Quality wine - Cuvee Ines Rouge - Moulin des Nonnes
Brothers Henri and Louis Andrieu’s family have owned this 110 hectare property east of Carcasonne for four generations and there is a real sense of continuity combined with a desire to maintain and improve the family inheritance. Louis speaks of “le beau métier du vigneron” as if it is his duty to make the best wines he possibly can and achieves this through a combination of very low yields (down to 35 hl/ ha – amazing for this part of France) organic grapes and partial barrique ageing. The Andrieus are very much at the forefront of the new wave of winemakers in the Languedoc. As for the name Le Moulin des Nonnes is the old mill which still stands in the middle of the vineyards once used by the Clarisses (Poor Clare) sisters of the former convent to grow...

bAz. Agr. Valle Reale / b Az. Agr. The results after just a few vintages are spectacular: Wines packed with red fruit spice and soft warm tannins.Montepulciano d`Abruzzo 2006The `classic` wine from this estate and something of a powerhouse. Lovely blueberry damson and black cherry fruit with tobacco leaf and mineral notes. A great all rounder. The 2006 vintage has won Gambero Rosso`s Maximum Three Glasses - an exceptional achievment.

Quality wine - 2006 Bourgogne Blanc - Alain Chavy
The Chavys are an institution in Puligny dating back a couple of centuries now and in 2002 Alain Chavy and his brother Jean-Louisdivided their father’s domaine up and went their own ways – albeit not very far! On a recent visit to the newly built and deep cellars ofAlain to taste through his 2006 and 2007 Puligny Montarchets we were expecting to taste some decent wine as his father had hadsome seriously good vineyards and always made a true style of Puligny. It has to be said we were not disappointed Alain has improved on his father`s achievements and regularly turns out exemplary wines with great typicity and class.2006 Bourgogne Blanc It`s hard to believe this is just a humble Bourgogne Blanc. From vines within Puligny this has such good structure and concentration of fruit...

Quality wine - 2007 Pinot Bianco - Terlano
Cantina Terlano was founded as a co-operative back in 1893 and now numbers over 100 contributing producers all farming tiny plots on terraces cut into the slopes of Mount Schöggel at altitudes of up to 1000 metres. These south-facing slopes strewn with crystals and volcanic rock give rise to wines of wonderful elegance complexity and minerality and give spectacular views into the Bolzano Valley below – this is where Italy meets Germany in more ways than one. What is so striking about Cantina Terlano is the consistent excellence of the wines produced vintage after vintage and the varietal character that marks every single wine (without oak to cloak the aromatics). ‘Kellermeister’ Rudi Kofler aims for wines of typicity and longevity and he achieves this with...

Quality wine - Chateau Tire Pe
David and Hélène Barrault took over this vineyard perched on slopes overlooking the River Gironde two weeks before the ‘challenging’ 1997 vintage not too far from Sainte-Croix–du-Mont. Since the 2003 vintage in particular they have been making terrific wines. As the Gault Millau guide says of Ch. Tire Pé; ‘these are very very good ‘simple’ bordeaux wines’; something most of us spend our lives searching for without much success!2005 Chateau Tire Pe90% Merlot plus Cabernet Sauvignon. Luscious plummy fruit on the nose with minty notes. Lovely richness on the palate; ripe blackberry and cherry fruit silky tannins quite full with medium long balanced minerally finish.
