Chateau Caronne Ste-Gemme 2002, Haut-Medoc
Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a dab of Petit Verdot, and given a full year in French oak, this Cru Bourgeois represents excellent value for money. Slightly smoky on the palate, with ripe fruits, green peppers and subtle oak giving a well-rounded finish. An excellent accompaniment to winter roasts.

Chianti Classico Riserva 2004, Banfi
This is a different sort of Chianti made in a more international style and consequently more thickly fruited and gorgeously juicy. Once matured the tannins will soften to reveal a rather classy tipple. Great with roast meats and cheeses.

Clos de Los Siete 2005, Mendoza
A combination of classic Bordeaux varieties Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as 20% Syrah, give this hand-harvested wine fat, dense, almost port-like red fruit scents with a full, spicy flavour. Capable of further ageing in the bottle, this is a wine to drink with grilled steak.

Pouilly-Fuisse Terroirs de Fuisse Selection 2006, Christophe Cordier
Made from grapes sourced from the finest vineyard sites around the village of Fuisse, this wine undergoes a traditional vinification with half the wine fermented in large oak 'f»ts', or barrels, giving the wine its classic, toasty finish. This richness is balanced by tropical pineapple flavours and crisp citrus acidity, making the wine an ideal partner to creamy poultry dishes that match its weight.

A soft luxurious wine, mid garnet in colour with a lovely brambly nose and a hint of Bovril. Nuances of warm leather, caramel and coffee cream over rich autumn fruit. Excellent balance and a lingering finish, try served with grilled lamb, duck and most rich meats.

Chianti Classico 2004, Castello della Paneretta
After many quiet years, Castello della Panaretta is now beginning to show that it is one of the best Chianti Classico estates around. The old vines are now making wines of great structure and length under the tutelage of one of Tuscany's best winemakers. From almost totally Sangiovese grapes, it shows a firm ripeness and a wonderful depth with a touch of cherries on the finish. Full, warm and generous, drink with barbecued meats and cheeses.
